This past June, at the Annual PDGA quad show in Shelby, NC, Richard and Frederica (Rica) Waldman announced that they are retiring from showing. They will be sorely missed on the show circuit for both the quality of their animals and also for their presence outside of the ring at shows.
For those who are unaware, the Waldmans have been breeding and showing purebred Alpines for almost 40 years under the Nodaway herdname. They had the 1992 National Champion as well as the 1996 Best Udder, and were the breeders of the 2006 Spotlight Sale Doe, Ch Nodaway Raya’s Rapture purchased by Mary and Randy Adamson, who went on to be the 2013 National Reserve Champion Alpine.
Their dedication to the purebred Alpine, as well as to each other, has been an inspiration to most who have met them at shows around the Carolinas, and across the country. They are always happy to give advice to new breeders, and have provided many with a good start with quality animals from their herd.
At the present time the Nodaway herdname does not qualify for “Historic Herdname” status with ADGA as they are going to continue to breed and maintain a small herd, but we certainly expect to see that happen in the future.
We wish them all the best in their “retirement.”
